"whoever has the world's goods, and beholds his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him? Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and in truth." 1 John 3:17-18 |

| 136 people fled their villages in Burma (Tongoo district) after the Burma Army forcibly removed them. This father is carrying his son and the things he needs to survive short term. Your contribution to the 5 Alive campaign will help families like his stay alive and experience a visible expression of compassion. |
You have ended up on a desolate island with only 5 belongings. You found them in the waterproof backpack that somehow made it to the sandy shore. What do you hope to find inside the pack? Food? Bug repellant? A GPS unit?
The ethnic minorities of Burma are going through a similar exercise... except for them it's not a game.
Naw Paw Htoo, aged 60, comes from Tongoo District in North Eastern Burma. She is a widow. While on an errand to buy food in a nearby village, her late husband was captured without cause by the Burma Army. They tied his hands behind his back, drug him into the jungle, hung him upside down in a tree, gouged out his eyes and drowned him. She found him in this state.
Later, in 2006, the Burma Army attacked and occupied her village. They burned down homes and looted property. 7 of her neighbors were shot and killed. The survivors fled into the jungle. Naw Paw Htoo ran with two of her five children. They lived in the jungles for over a month. Suffering, they finally crossed the border to Ei Tu Hta refugee camp in Thailand.

| This child and her community were helped by relief teams in April 27, 2006. Partners sent in medicine, shelter material, and clothes for thousands of people who were chased from their homes and communities by Burma Army troops. |
People like Naw Paw Htoo routinely experience brutality. They are uprooted from their homes and forced to run. They flee with what few belongings they can carry. These belongings must sustain them for up to several months in the unforgiving, wild terrain of Eastern Burma.
The journey is treacherous and can cost them their life.
At Partners, we believe we are compelled to engage. In our interviews of internally displaced people (IDP) like Naw Paw Htoo, we have asked what are the most urgent needs for a family of 5 to survive one month in the jungle. The list is simple.
For a mere $50, five people can eat, have shelter and live. Will you support us in keeping 5 people alive? Use your resources to help us provide direct care. Invest in People Today.
